When it’s time for new dentures, your Aspen Dental care team will prepare your smile with any preliminary assessments or treatment. Afterward, you’ll receive immediate, temporary dentures while you recover in preparation for your permanent ones.
To prepare you for your final smile, your dentist will perform any necessary tooth extractions. While your teeth and gums are healing, you may be provided with temporary dentures to support you while you wait for your permanent ones. Thankfully if you’re already a denture wearer, you get to skip this step.
Great question. Immediate dentures, or same-day dentures, are temporary dentures you’ll wear from the time we do the tooth extractions and take your impressions, to the time you receive your permanent dentures. They’re customized to fit snugly during the healing phase.
Your permanent dentures are the custom-crafted smile solution that’s built to last. Your permanent dentures will help restore the look, feel and function of your smile and will get you back to living your life to the fullest.

Temporary dentures should be cared for similarly to permanent ones. Proper cleaning, regular check-ups, and following your dentist’s instructions are essential to maintaining oral health.
Your dentist should provide guidelines on how to care for your temporary dentures, what to expect during the healing process and when to schedule any follow-up appointments.
Because they aren’t typically customized like your permanent dentures, immediate dentures may not fit as comfortably. Not to worry, immediate dentures are designed to be temporary, and you’ll only wear them for a few months until your permanent ones are ready.
Typically, patients will wear temporary dentures for 6 months, on average, while waiting for the permanent dentures. This time frame can vary depending on your unique smile’s needs, as well as if you’re healing from any tooth extractions.
Immediate dentures are designed with a natural look and feel in mind. Our Aspen Dental dentists work closely with our onsite lab technicians and take care to choose materials and colors that closely resemble your natural smile.
Yes, of course. However, it may take some getting used to in the beginning. As you adjust to your immediate dentures, we recommend nourishing your body with soup, smoothies, pudding, applesauce, purees, and other soft foods for the first few days. This is important while your smile is healing from any tooth extractions. Use extra care when eating or drinking anything hot to avoid burning your mouth. Slowly work your way to be able to enjoy firmer foods again.
Immediate dentures will set up your smile for success as you await your final ones. A strong smile is right around the corner— schedule an appointment with your local Aspen Dental to learn more.
